What a Battery BMS Does—and What the Inverter Still Has to Do

The battery management system monitors and protects the battery. The inverter converts power and controls the energy flow between battery, loads and other sources. Reliable operation depends on their roles being coordinated.

Battery protection and measurements

A pack BMS may monitor cell voltages, temperature, current and SOC and apply protection limits. The exact functions and thresholds depend on the model. Request the relevant alarm information and the supported diagnostic access.

Inverter control and supported loads

The inverter must operate inside the permitted battery limits while supplying the connected circuits. AC output, transfer behavior, grid operation and surge handling are inverter and system-design questions, not features established by battery capacity.

Communication links the two

In a supported closed-loop configuration, the BMS can communicate status and permitted current. The inverter still needs the correct profile and firmware. A BMS cutoff should not be treated as the routine mechanism for managing ordinary loads.
