Adding capacity to an existing system starts with the installed model and its approved expansion procedure. A second battery is not automatically a plug-in upgrade, even when voltage and enclosure appear similar.
Check compatibility between batteries
Record the installed battery’s model, firmware, age and condition. Ask whether the proposed additional unit is approved alongside it. Capacity, BMS revision and communication arrangement may affect the answer.
Reassess the electrical installation
The expansion may change available current and require review of cabling, protection and common connection points. Confirm the inverter’s supported battery quantity and whether settings must change. More batteries should not be used to justify exceeding any other component’s limit.
Follow the approved connection procedure
The manufacturer may specify preparation, SOC matching, addressing and a startup sequence. Have the installer follow that procedure and record the resulting configuration. Do not infer the process from another brand’s manual.
